Quakertown, Pennsylvania, September 24 – The Cruise 4 UR School fundraiser
sponsored by Ford Motor Company and Faulkner-Ciocca Ford Mercury raised about
$4,000 to benefit the Shawn
Duffy Memorial Fund on September 13th.
Originally, the funds were going to benefit the Quakertown High
School soccer and cheer booster clubs, but club members voted to forego the
funds and donate them to the memorial fund instead. The memorial fund was
created after Quakertown High School student and soccer player, Shawn Duffy,
unexpectedly passed away during a soccer practice last month. The
fundraiser allowed people to test drive one of many new Ford vehicles, and for every individual who participated, Ford and
Faulkner-Ciocca Ford Mercury donated $20 to the Shawn Duffy Memorial Fund. More than 80 people completed test drives at this
unique event.
Additional funds were raised during the event by raffling off
a Magellan GPS and a Zune which Ford
Motor Company donated. A number of local community members also donated
money while at the event. Students from the high school soccer and
cheerleading teams donated their time by staffing the event.
“It was touching to see both booster clubs vote to donate
their money to the Shawn Duffy Memorial Fund,” said Faulkner-Ciocca Ford
Mercury general manager, Joe Maher. “We were happy to interact with the
community and school to benefit such a fine cause,” he said.
More opportunities to donate to the Shawn Duffy Memorial Fund
are scheduled. The community night, which was postponed September 12 due
to rain, is rescheduled for September 30th and neighboring Pennridge
High School will be donating a portion of their concession sale proceeds on
Monday October 6th during the Pennridge versus Quakertown soccer
game to the Shawn Duffy Memorial Fund.
By participating in the Cruise 4 UR School event, Quakertown
High School has been entered into a Ford nationwide sales competition.
There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize*
($10,000, $5,000 and $2,500) given to the high schools that generate the most
new Ford Division sales.
